Student Health Ambassadors Complete Their Summer Program

Earlier this month, the NBT's Student Health Ambassadors finished their summer intensive program in preparation for the new school year.

The purpose of the program was to prepare rising high school juniors and seniors to lead the way in cultivating a mental health stigma-free school environment. During the 5-week program, students learned about the meaning of positive mental health and discussed the effects that mental health issues can have on students, families, and within their community.

The group heard from guest speakers, learned and practiced mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and other activities, which have all helped them continue to develop their stigma-free campaign, culminating in a two-day Mental Health First Aid Training, for which they received a certificate of completion.Though they cannot provide true mental services, through role play and discussion, the summer helped them discern if one of their fellow students is struggling and guide them to seek help through the proper channels.

The group has worked hard on their stigma-free campaign (called "Dazzle of a New Day') in order to spread awareness about mental health in the new academic year. They are ready and excited to implement their plans for continued social media presence and begin their initiatives for recruiting more students to the program when school resumes in September.

Stay tuned for the official launch of the “Dazzle of a New Day” Instagram page in the coming weeks!
