Employment Opportunity: Housing Development Associate (Hybrid)

Hub City Housing (HCH) is seeking a motivated individual with an interest in and passion for affordable housing and urban community development to fill a newly created, half-time staff position that will assist the organization in pursuing its mission of developing quality, affordable housing in New Brunswick’s neighborhoods.

Hub City Housing is a sister agency of New Brunswick Tomorrow (NBT), a social impact organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for New Brunswick’s residents. NBT incorporated and launched Hub City Housing in 2024 to serve as a dedicated Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) with a mission to create healthy, affordable homes and improve the quality of life for low- and moderate-income persons in NewBrunswick, particularly through homeownership opportunities.

Job Overview

The Housing Development Associate will support Hub City Housing and NBT in planning and advancing the organizations’ shared housing and real estate activities, with a focus on the successful implementation of our current affordable housing project. The position will report to the Board Chair of Hub City Housing, who also serves as the Director of Neighborhood Strategies for NBT.

The position will work a hybrid schedule of 20 hours; approximately 13-14 hours a week are expected in person at the offices of New Brunswick Tomorrow in New Brunswick.

There is a possibility of future growth and expansion of this position into a full-time role.

The anticipated start date of this position is June 15, 2026.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Support Hub City Housing and NBT’s affordable housing and real estate development projects in New Brunswick in the following ways:

Project coordination

·     Assist in the implementation of the Esperanza Homes Phase II affordable housing      development project, including support for the completion of pre-development

      tasks and construction management.

·     Coordinate with development team members, including Hub City Housing’s Board and       NBT’s staff and development consultants, to ensure project milestones are met on       time.

·     Participate in regular project check-in calls and property site visits.

Research and Analysis

·      Monitor local real estate markets for property acquisition opportunities.

·      Analyze data related to local market trends and housing needs.

Funding Compliance and Reporting

·      Support the preparation of grant applications and proposals for funding.

·      Monitor grant deliverables and assist in reporting to funders.

·      Assist in tracking project budgets and expenditures, ensuring compliance with       funding requirements.

·      Prepare and maintain project meeting notes and Hub City Housing meeting minutes.

Administrative Support:

·      Provide administrative support to project managers, including scheduling meetings        and managing correspondence.

·      Maintain project databases and filing systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; candidates enrolled in relevant graduate programs are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Some hands-on experience in housing or real estate development, particularly in NJ urban areas, is preferred
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the broader community development sector
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Self-motivated, able to adapt to new situations
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Salary and Benefits: $32,000, with increases considered for relevant experience. Paid time off and sick time equal to NBT’s policies.
