Call for applicants - Community Outreach Ambassador  

New Brunswick Tomorrow  

Organization: 

New Brunswick Tomorrow is a social impact organization that convenes stakeholders and  residents across the City of New Brunswick in conversations about our community’s most  pressing needs. NBT does this in a way that promotes community buy-in, vetting proposed  solutions and driving positive impact that promote equity and reduce disparities across the city.  There are 4 pillars to our work: education and youth, community health, neighborhood  revitalization, and leadership development. NBT looks to strengthen residents' ability to  advocate for themselves and their neighbors on the issues most important to them. 

Position Summary: 

NBT is building upon its existing, successful community outreach model by expanding our  outreach team to include additional Community Ambassadors responsible for authentically  engaging their fellow New Brunswick residents. 

The Community Outreach Ambassadors drive forward various NBT projects by providing  and/or supporting outreach and canvassing, community education and training, attending  community events, and related tasks. The Ambassadors may also conduct phone calls and in  some cases, home visits. The Ambassador teams will work closely with a team that includes  New Brunswick Tomorrow’s program staff and Operations Manager. Depending on the project  to which the Ambassadors are assigned, they may also work alongside staff from partner  agencies.  

Position Responsibilities/Duties Include But Are Not Limited To: 

● Attend required training sessions that include program/professional development,  outreach, community advocacy, cultural competency, and educational topics

● Conduct outreach activities to promote NBT initiatives and activities, recruit community  participants, and share educational information. Outreach activities may include but are  not limited to: 

○ Door knocking  

○ Street canvassing 

○ Tabling at community events 

○ Phone banking ○ Conducting surveys ○ Social media content 

● Participate in regular team debrief and planning meetings (in person and/or virtual)

● Help plan and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and/or educational programs  (in person or virtual)

● Conduct follow-up with interested community members 

● Connect residents with appropriate services and resources, as appropriate

● Maintain communications with program staff regarding program and resident needs

● Perform data entry and maintain database of contacts

Position Requirements: 

● Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

● Comfortable with approaching and engaging people in a wide variety of outreach  settings (door knocking, street canvassing, at events, etc.) 

● Able to walk and work outdoors for up to 4-hour shifts in adequate weather conditions

● Experience with, or willingness to learn, public speaking and meeting facilitation

● English-Spanish bilingual preferred not but required 

● Availability on weekends 

● Availability on weekdays, both evenings (1-2 times per week) and daytime (1-2 times  per week)  

● Basic computer literacy and ability to perform data entry (training provided)

Working Conditions/Physical Demand: Various settings, primarily in the community;  work may include some office work.

Hours and pay: Schedule will vary according to program needs, but will average 12-15 hours  per week at $18.50 per hour.

Additional Information on NBT Outreach Focus Areas: 

Ambassadors may be assigned to work on distinct outreach projects, each of which have some  unique characteristics and responsibilities for the assigned Ambassadors. Examples of current  NBT outreach focus areas include the following: 

● COVID-19: Educating residents about COVID-19, including sharing information and  resources related to vaccines and public health measures.  

● Educational Justice: Engaging New Brunswick Public School parents in efforts alongside  students and educators to improve New Brunswick’s educational system.

● Business Outreach: Reaching out to and sharing information with local small businesses,  particularly in the French Street and Remsen Avenue areas. 

● Food Security: Helping residents access food resources.  

● Mental Health: Promoting mental health resources and campaigns to reduce the stigma  associated with mental health issues. 

● Esperanza Neighborhood Project: Promoting the activities and programs of the  Esperanza Project, NBT’s neighborhood revitalization initiative.
