Johnson & Johnson Bridge To Employment Program
Twenty-one 12th grade students at the New
Brunswick Health Sciences Technology High School
were randomly selected when they were in the 9th
grade to participate in a four-year intensive
academic support program. Students receive
applied learning opportunities, job shadowing
and mentoring experiences with Johnson & Johnson
employees, and standardized test preparation and
tutoring in math and science by Rutgers
University students. The program also boasts an
intergenerational component, with the 12th
graders tutoring 6th graders from Livingston
School.
Academic Support for the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program
New Brunswick Public Schools’ Advancement Via
Individual Determination (AVID) Program is an
intensive academic program for New Brunswick
High School students who possess potential for
academic promise. Approximately 25 students per
class are selected to participate in the
program. In 2006, with generous support from
Johnson & Johnson, NBT provided financial
assistance for an academic support program
developed jointly by New Brunswick Public
Schools and Rutgers University’s Offi ce for
Diversity and Academic Success in the Sciences. |
